To Rent a Car

    How can I book a car?
    A
    You can book a car online or on the phone.

    What constitutes the rental rates?
    A

    There are three basic rental categories:

    • (1) 6-hour rental: You can use a car for up to six hours between pick-up and drop-off. e.g., Pick-up at 8:00 a.m. and drop-off by 2:00 p.m. on the same day.
    • (2) 12-hour rental: You can use a car for up to 12 hours between pick-up and drop-off. e.g., Pick-up at 8:00 a.m. and drop-off by 8:00 p.m. on the same day.
    • (3) 24-hour (one day) rental: You can use a car for up to 24 hours between pick-up and drop-off. e.g., Pick-up at 2:00 p.m. and drop-off by 2:00 p.m. on the following day.
    • If you would like to use a car for more than 24 hours, the additional daily rate will be charged for the extra day(s).
    • If your rental exceeds the scheduled drop-off time, you will be charged for a late return. Should you not call the drop-off branch in advance, you will also be charged specified penalty fees.

    Please note

    • Mileage restrictions apply to sports car rentals. You will be charged if you exceed the restrictions.
    • You can include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) in your rental contract. Should you get involved in a car accident during rental hours, CDW waives your responsibility for paying deductibles for property and vehicle damages. CDW will be charged on a daily basis.
    • At the time of pick-up, your vehicle will come with the fuel tank full. Please refill the tank to full when you drop-off, or else pay for the missing fuel at drop-off according to the specified fuel charge depending on mileage.

    What do I need to pick-up a car?

    Please bring valid driver's licenses/permits for all passengers who are scheduled to drive, and sufficient cash or a valid credit card to pay the rental fees.

    Does the booking person have to be a passenger?
    A
    Yes. The person who rents a car must follow a booking procedure.

    Is it possible to purchase a one-way rental?
    A
    Yes. You can drop-off a car with no charge at one of the branches (Sapporo Station North Exit, Chitose or Nango-dori) where you feel comfortable to return. If you would like to drop-off the car in Hakodate or Asahikawa, we offer a car return service (charged). Please note that the one-way rental or charged return service are subject to availability. Please ask the staff when booking.

    Can I change the schedule or cancel the reservation?

    Yes. Your pick-up branch will accept cancellations or itinerary changes by phone. Please call:

    Can I rent a car at New Chitose Airport upon arrival?
    A
    If you book a car at New Chitose Airport's service counter, you will pick-up your car at our Chitose branch. A shuttle bus will take you there (approx. 15-min drive).

    Am I covered by car insurance if I have an accident?

    Yes. Honda Rent A Car rental service includes car insurance, and offers the CDW service (optional). Please go to "Insurance and indemnity policy".

    Can I use child safety seats?
    A
    Child seats are available without charge. Please ask when booking. For details, please go to "Child safety seats". Please note that there is a limited availability and you may not always have one as requested.

To Lease a Car

    What is the difference between 'car rental' and 'car lease'?
    A
    Car rental is the service to rent a car for a relatively short term from a few days to a few months. When you rent a car for a few years for exlucive use, you lease a car.

    Can I terminate a car lease contract at any time?
    A
    Principally, you cannot terminate the contract before the end of the contract period. Should you terminate the contract, you must pay a contract termination penalty.

    Can I have a company name on the body surface or add optional parts to a leased car?
    A
    Yes. Please specify your request when making a contract (charged).
  • Q
    What should I do with a leased car when the lease term has expired?
    A
    You can choose whether to renew the contract with the same car, or make a new contract with a different car.
